HAND, or Have A Nice Day [get it?], is a hair, fashion, and beauty boutique-style café. This place has everything – you can get your hair done by professional hairdressers while sipping on a delish cuppa, then pop down to the beauty salon in the garden, and on your way out, how about a browse through the gorgeous racks of clothes by local designers?
Already based in Cape Town, HAND is officially opening its Jo’burg store today, at number 66 Sixth Street, Parkhurst. And of course the location would be Parkhurst; personally, one of my favourite Jo’burg places. You can live and party in the same street, come on! And now you can get your hair ’did too.
When BFF and I sauntered through HAND’s doors at opening night last night, we were immersed into a realm of fashionistas, hair stylists, media, and, well, cool people. Happy-looking waitresses kept trying to feed us artistic Hors d'œuvres, and I succumbed, particularly to the camembert cheese spring rolls, dipped in a strawberry sauce, and butternut soup in shot glasses. This was a top-class event, but I might not have acted so top class myself, when my eyes widened in elatedness and I squealed quietly whenever I saw a waitress nearby with a tray …
Just as I was sipping on a cocktail and solving all the problems of the world with BFF, I spotted a vision in pleated leopard print – Shanon, the store’s owner. I will go to HAND just to make better friends with her! You’ve got to have a trendy, fashionista running a place as stylish as this, and she fits every requirement. So, go check out HAND in Parkhurst, you’ll be impressed.
PS: Today is officially my first day of eating meat, after a month of vegetarianism! I had a Woollies roast chicken salad sandwich this morning. The verdict? It tasted great and I’m pretty chuffed with myself for sticking it out. Now, perhaps I should join the crew taking part in Dry July … nah!
